Consider Suicide 5X

57% Continue to Suffer from Depression

SEDONA, Ariz., March 31, 2004-- Some 48,000,000 Americans -- or approximately 1 in every 4 -- have taken prescription medications such Paxil®, Zoloft® and Prozac®, results of the First Sedona Life Quality Study* show; yet 57% of them reported that they continue to feel depression, stress, and anxiety. The FDA's decision to place warnings on ten of the most frequently prescribed antidepressant medications may be too little to late according to Hale Dwoskin of Sedona Training Associates. an organization headquartered in Sedona, Arizona dedicated to fostering emotional health and well-being.

The study, which focused on American's attitudes toward stress, happiness, and everyday quality of life issues, also revealed:

  • 16% of those on medication have considered suicide as opposed to 3% of the non-drug using population; making them 5x more likely to consider suicide**

  • 44% of this group finds work stressful, and were twice as likely to quit or be fired because of their inability to deal with bosses and co-workers

"These statistics show millions of people are taking medications that are not helping them, and which may cause deadly physical side effects and deeper emotional conflict; despite FDA warnings these drugs continue to be over- prescribed, and are increasingly used to treat children and teenagers," says Dwoskin. The study shows clearly that Americans are more aware of day-to-day "quality of life issues" than ever before, but are still uncertain how to deal with stress and emotional turmoil.

63% of those on medications had tried yoga, meditation or prayer to relieve stress, anxiety, and depression. Dwoskin says, "That's good news; at least people are looking for alternatives." Dwoskin is the New York Times bestselling author of The Sedona Method: Your Key to Lasting Happiness, Success, Peace and Emotional Well-Being, a scientifically proven technique for relieving anxiety, stress and depression; strengthening relationships and fostering happiness. He has helped thousands of people achieve freedom from negativity, and learn to find lasting contentment without relying on pharmaceuticals and therapy.

*Study represents findings of a telephone survey conducted among a national probability sample of 1,013 adults 18 years of age and older in the United States. Interviewing for this Opinion Research Corporation CARAVAN(R) Survey was completed March 11 - 14, 2004. Survey has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.

**Sample may be too small to be conclusive.
