Rebuild Your Passion: Add anti-aging to your relationship

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

Sometimes, in a relationship, passion might slide and it isn't always related to work, the kids and so many other factors. If you can exclude all of these disparate factors, it may be time to consider focusing on an anti-aging regimen.

When you no longer seem to have an interest in intimacy with your spouse or partner, that may be a sign that you need to consider some blood work. That is assuming all or most other aspects of your relationship are solid or at least part of ongoing communication. You may still be in love with your partner or spouse, but just don't have a libido. You might also find that your partner is getting frustrated with a lack of attention, if you can pick-up the signs. Some people aren't comfortable discussing intimacy, but it is an important part of the vast majority of relationships and should not be swept under the rug.

If after discussing your lack of interest and the limited intimacy you've been sharing, there is agreement, toys, lotions or other playthings aside, the blood work I was talking about is one basic effort that is rarely made. Why? Simply because most Western trained physicians won't go through the trouble and cause the expense for the insurance companies. The doctors will typically say that you aren't sick and look fine, yet you're love life is effectively nil and while you might not think it is an essential element of your relationship, it is and needs to be addressed.

What causes this drop in libido? Quite simply, it is a reduced secretion of the libido supporting hormones such as testosterone and human growth hormones. There may be other circumstances like thyroid issues or other glandular problems if you aren't middle aged and suffering from reduced hormone production as we all do.  That is why the blood panel is so important. Your physician (or the new one that will oblige your request to take the blood hormone panel) will then assess how low your various hormone levels are as compared to people of your age group. DON'T FALL FOR IT!

The key here is that you don't want to be compared to people in your age group. You want to be compared to your gender when you were at your optimum sexual performance, which is usually around your early 20's for men or women. They typically (doctors that is) quote you a "normal" range and you also don't want to be in that range. You want to know what your levels were like when you were at your optimum performance, which is all but impossible if you didn't do a hormone panel when you were 25 years old. So you'll have to assess your levels and this is what tracking and measuring your supplementation under the supervision of your physician.

So what does this have to do with anti-aging? It's essentially rolling back the clock and while you can't do it for all of your physical attributes, you certainly can for specific levels of hormones that will not endanger your health if you keep the levels of specific hormones within a range that is relative to YOUR endocrine balance. That is why I always tell everyone to take their full blood hormone panel at as early an age as possible to establish a baseline and reference point for you when you get older and potentially suffer from lowered libido and a myriad of other age related issues that Western physicians like to say is normal, but it isn't. It's only normal if you want to take the standard line into a grave. There is nothing wrong with fighting aging  right to the bitter end.

Once you get the results back from the blood hormone panel, you can sit down with your preferred and understanding physician, pathologist or anti-aging specialist and go through the libido enhancing hormones and precursors (those messenger chemicals that tell your glands and other tissues to produce hormones) in order to consider a regimen that suits you and will provide a gradual enhancement of your libido and related emotions. It doesn't resolve overnight, but you'll be able to be attuned to your body and it's needs relatively quickly from one to two weeks.

It is absolutely worth the effort to analyze your endocrine system to maximize your libido. You'll be glad you did and your partner will be thrilled about it as well!
