New romantics: driving the wide difference?
These word's, spoken by the character Samantha on Sex In The City, couldn't be any more true today as the struggle for our hearts and minds picks up between the politically correct right wing election oriented support groups and the new romantics. That isn't to say new romantics embody much of what Victorian or Renaissance courtships had, but it is at least an attempt to bring back some form of attention to sensitivity, elegance and attention to detail. These qualities seem to have been sucked out of the current generation along with the culture of exploitation of woman and sexual imagery splashed in all kinds of media, but we digress.
The culture of reality television stars trying to flaunt their "stuff" and get caught with sexually explicit video tapes has made intimacy that much more cheap and meaningless. It seems to be more associated with 15 minutes of fame, rather than honest efforts to explore their sexuality. Sex and intimacy aren't something that should be taken lightly. Rather, they are beautiful, emotional experiences that many know little about as it seems to be related to what is seen in music video's rather than what is read in romance novels.
Ultimately, women have different needs and perspectives on intimate relationships and while one woman may seek and be comfortable and satisfied with a gentleman, that was considerate, soft-spoken and concerned about her needs, another may want someone who is interested in BDSM, may be abusive and be happy to sell their sex as has been the case for so many celebrities and wanna-bees. The variables are many and the circumstances are also very complex to be able to predict what kind of man a woman may want.
Infatuation, reality television and a diversity of needs
In fact, some women are actually infatuated by a man who may reflect either type of characteristics. One woman's saint is another woman's sinner is an old saying that is as true today as it was hundreds of years ago. Don't try to tell either type that their decisions may be detrimental to their mental or even physical health. That would only cause a conflict with your own relationship, unless you know them well enough to guide them away from a situation that mist likely will lead to their downfall.
The relatively new television channel, Investigation Discovery has many shows that show the downside to some of these relationships gone wrong. Whether it is from "Blood, Lies and Alibis" or other relationship shows gone wrong , we see how easily women can be focused and misidentifying their own pornographers who may be their own religious relationship solutions. Whether they are the fantasies of women who are looking for their ideal mate, or someone who is simply looking for a short term, intimate relationship, the variations are wide and often surprising from one end of a spectrum to another.
