Some may wonder how or why someone would stay with someone who is suffering from a severe chronic condition. We admonish those who leave cancer sufferers, or others who are in declining health or in the end stages of MS or other debilitating diseases.
A standard example of a selfless and committed wife would be Dana Reeve who stayed by Christopher Reeve's side for years after his tragic accident. She herself died a number of years later of cancer and the love and connection that she showed to her husband and his efforts to improve those suffering from spinal chord injuries. However, as with everything, there are always greater and lesser and in this area, we need not look any further than to the committed wives and partners of those suffering from tragic, chronic and disfiguring diseases that are so extreme as to consume everything in their path, including their children.
Bubble Man is one such case, where despite his difficult to look at appearance, difficult life (financial, physical, social and mental) his wife has stayed by his side, hoping and praying that Dr.Anthony Gaspari, a US based dermatological surgeon, can save not only Chandra Wisnu, but also their marriage.
There are other extreme cases of commitment and love. Some will call it soul-mate syndrome or a personal penance that the non-afflicted spouse or partner feels compelled to suffer. Another example of this unusual drive and support came from another famous sufferer of Dr. Gaspari's known as Tree Man. What is important to note is that he and Mr. Wisnu had not only their wives and children, but extended family that helped support their mental stability with caring and love despite the harsh prospects for a remedy or cure and the expected ostracizing from the community who couldn't accept a person with such an extreme set of conditions.
