Secrets & Tips

Red Wine and White Lace

Picture this, you and your honey are sitting on the couch, watching a movie and drinking a bottle of Merlot.  Your  kids are asleep, and suddenly, romance takes over.  A kiss turns to a hug, a hug to passion and then...Oops, your entire glass of red wine falls on your date's white lace dress!  Don't panic! This happened to our CEO.  Find out how she saved the night and her brand new dress $300 dress in 30 seconds flat.

Red on white got you blue?

If you spill red wine, grape juice or another liquid organic substance on clothing or carpet, this trick will lift the stain out when wet and restore the fabric to new.  Do not use this method on rayon or 100% wool.  These fabrics shrink.

The wonder product

To fix the problem, fill a sink or tub 2/3 full with warm water.  Add 1/4 cup of baking soda and stir the water to dissolve the soda.  The baking soda oxidizes the water and these bubbles lift the stain out. Drop the clothing into the water.  You do not need to scrub or touch it.  The backing soda will lift the stain right out of the fabric in about 30 seconds.  After 30 seconds, simply rinse in cold water and either lay flat to dry or toss it into the dryer.

For carpet stains, follow the same procedure with a bucket and dab the carpet with a rag moistened in the bucket.  Alternate dabbing  with a dry towel until the stain is gone.

Bonus tip: No More Garlic Breath

Love garlic but hate what it does to your breath and mouth for the next eight hours?  Prevent it and get rid of it quick.  Mix 2 teaspoons of baking soda with 1 cup warm water.  Drink this either before or within twenty minutes of completing a garlic laden meal.  Yes, it tastes horrible, but three seconds of discomfort is worth skipping 8 hours of pasty mouth, garlic belches and embarrassing bad breath.  The baking soda acts as a antacid in your stomach and prevents you from burping up garlic.  It also acts as a deodorizer and kills the smell at the source.

Warning: Baking soda is high in sodium. Do not use this solution if your doctor has advised you against high sodium intake.
