Concurrently a friend had told me yesterday his sister is
having major anxiety attacks and falling deeper into despair.
The recession has nearly forced her company under; one of her
brothers is recently diagnosed with cancer and she is just
beginning the first stages of menopause at 45 alone and no
longer married. This is difficult for a woman who wants
children. She's finally resigning herself to the fact
she never will. Add to this though she's a native of
this country and Catholic, she's also Arab American.
Given the times and the current attitude toward Arabs in this
country, she's still bearing the brunt of the hatred. As
I finished up the final stanza, my thoughts were on her.
Later I sent the poem to her and my friend got back to me.
He said it made her day. Perhaps this poem may help
another also find hope and the courage to go another day.

Whatever You Do
….DO NOT Quit
by Laura
Dawn Lewis
When life no longer follows your will
The road it seems is endlessly uphill
Funds are low
Debts are high
You want to smile, but instead you cry
Anxiety and worry, you’re chomping the bit
Rest, reflect, recharge, go awry
But whatever you do, DO NOT quit
TOP
Each life is journey with its twists and
turns
Within each bend, each of us learns
Many a failure will come about
For those with courage to stick it out
Press onward, press upward, scream if you must
It is within times of challenge that we learn to trust
Trust in ourselves, trust in each other
Trust in our ability and faith in our Father
Retrench, redo, reassess and re-fit
But whatever you do, DO NOT quit
Changes are slow
Your obligations high
Soon these problems will pass you by
You will never know how close you are
Unless you’re willing to go far
Beyond where others fear to tread
Is the freedom from this dread
No matter how hard life seems to hit
Whatever you do, DO NOT quit
TOP
Success is a failure turned inside out
Much like smile when a frown turns about
With the passing of each day
Those within hardship find their way
Triumph and good times grow near
To distant memory retire your fear
Stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit
But whatever you do, DO NOT quit
