Pumpkins
Want your Jack-o-Lantern to last the
entire month? Chisel. Chiseling cuts just 1/8th
to ¼ inch into the skin. Peel off the cut portions and use
dried fruits, twigs and staples like legumes and rice to
decorate. 3-5 days before Halloween cut out the bottom and
top and remove the seeds. The chiseled features will glow and
you’ll be able to display your Jack for the entire month!
Glow in the Dark
Pumpkin
Use a white pumpkin or spray paint a
pumpkin white after you’ve carved it. Put a black light on
the porch. Your pumpkins will glow from their eyes with the
candle inside and look to be hovering like ghosts without
bodies in the black light. For extra impact with black
lights, sprinkle white soap flakes or white confetti around
(now you know what to do with the residue from the 3 hole
punch). TOP
Don't want to mess with
pumpkins? Borrow a Christian tradition from another
holiday and cut pumpkin faces into lunch bags, fill the bottom
with sand and stick a candle in to create Jack-O-Lantern
Luminaries.
Food & Drinks
Bloody Daiquiris
Serving wine or mixed drinks? Turn your
beverages into a ghoulish treat by mixing red food dye with
honey or corn syrup and dripping it around the rim of the
cocktail glass, (just make sure it is a drink that tastes good
with sugar). TOP
Jell-O Shots
Relive your frat days by serving Jell-O
shots. Simply dissolve one package of lime Jell-O in one
cup boiling water. Chill until room temperature then mix
1 cup tequila with lime Jell-O and pour it into 2
oz Dixie cups until chilled. Wait until the Jell-O is
room temperature to replace 1 cup of water with 1 cup of
tequila.
Spider Cupcakes
Use either red or black licorice vines
and Redhots or jellybeans for the eyes. Simply stick
four
vines into two sides of the cupcake (spiders have 8 legs) and
top the frosting with the eyes.

Ghostly Baked Potatoes
Place a container of thick sour cream in
the freezer for 20-30 minutes before dinner. Bake potatoes as
you normally do, split them open. Melt butter in the
microwave and mix in red food coloring. Drizzle the red
butter over the split potato. With a tablespoon drop a large
dollop of sour cream on the potato (as high as you can. This
is your ghost). Use two whole cloves for the eyes and sprinkle
fresh chives around the base of the sour cream ghost.
This can also be done with whipped cream on deserts. Use
chocolate chips or sprinkles for the eyes.

Flaming Eyes Ghost Cake.
Make your favorite white sheet cake
according to the directions on the box, (do not throw away the
eggshells. You need two good half-shells). Once baked, cut a
dome shape at the top of the flat cake. Don’t discard the
cake you’ve cut away. These will be the ghost’s arms. (See
pictures). Arrange the ghost’s arms as in the diagram on a
cookie sheet. Frost the cake with white frosting. Use red
licorice ropes for the mouth. Use two good egg half shells as
the eyes. When you are ready to serve, place one sugar cube in
each egg half shell and pour 1/2 TBSP of brandy or Grand
Marnier over the sugar. Light the alcohol with a match and
you’ll have a ghost cake with flaming eyes. |
