Become the Leader You Would Most Admire
A good leader makes you want to do a better job,
A great leader makes you want to be a better person.

Think of that person or persons who were there for you during periods of agonizing self-doubt. They were the ones that didn’t give up on you, when you may have felt like quitting. They encouraged and inspired you to be all that you could be and more than you thought you could be. Feel the gratitude you still have towards them and your desire to honor their steadfast confidence and belief in you. How would they most likely want you to honor them? By doing and being for others what they were for you.
I credit much of my success to those mentors who helped me fulfill my potential. I’ve even dedicated each of my three books to them. They (and probably your mentors/role models) had the following attributes:
• the Wisdom to know the right thing to do
• the Integrity to do it
• the Character to stand up to those who don’t do it
• the Courage to stop those who won’t do it
• the Perseverance to keep doing it
What would be the effect on the productivity of your people if you became that person for them, that your mentor(s) were for you? If your mentor's support helped you accomplish what you have, wouldn’t doing the same for your subordinates likewise bring out the best in them?
My leadership coaching helps high potential leaders develop these traits and embed them in their professional DNA, so that they become the leader they would most admire (and like the mentors and role models they did admire). Much of the passion I feel in providing this is to honor what my mentors gave to me by “paying it forward.”
