Rael Isacowitz

Born in South Africa, Rael Isacowitz grew up with a
fascination of African tribal dance. A professional
dancer, choreographer, teacher and athlete, his unique
upbringing continues to influence his work with rare
international appeal.
After
achieving his undergraduate degree in Education, Rael
performed with
various dance troupes in Israel. During this time he
was introduced and studied Pilates under the tutelage
of the first generation protégées of Joseph Pilates. |

Later Rael moved to
England and perfected the Pilates techniques while earning a
Masters Degree in Dance Studies from the prestigious
University of Surrey. Concurrently, he performed,
choreographed and taught dance in some of the most prestigious
dance schools. An adventurer at heart, his teachings took him
east, trekking the Himalayas, exploring the culture of
Thailand and eventually settling in Australia as the director
of the Dance Department at Sydney's McDonald College of
Performing Arts.

During his
tenure, Rael initiated in conjunction with several Australian
medical professionals, a multi-faceted approach to the
treatment and care of dancers. His techniques are widely
applied by the dancers of the Australia Ballet and the Sydney
Dance Company. The program also sparked the interest of some
of Australia’s top athletes.
In 1990, after a trip to Southern California as a
choreographer, guest artist and lecturer, Rael was invited to
set up a Pilates rehabilitation program in an orthopedic
practice in Orange County. In 1991 he established Center
Conditioning, the world headquarters for BASIC. This studio is
a major force in the development and recognition of Pilates in
the United States.

Today Rael is now known
internationally as a teacher of teachers and has received
international recognition from the medical, dance and athletic
communities, as well as from his peers and colleagues. He
lectures at universities, colleges and dance studios in
Israel, England, South Africa, Australia and the United
States. His twenty plus years of training and experience in
dance, bodywork and athletics has led to the creation of his
company, Body Arts & Science. By incorporating yoga, dance and
athletics, Body Arts & Science blends the Eastern and
Western arts, science and body mechanics with a cutting edge
approach to the works of Joseph Pilates.
Rael has published several articles and is frequently featured
in numerous health and fitness publications. Recently Rael was
elected to the Board of the Pilates Method Alliance.
Rael is married and regards their son Elan as his
greatest achievement. |
